Position Summary The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher will be dedicated to supporting students who are acquiring English proficiency.
This role involves designing and implementing effective language instruction, collaborating with classroom teachers, and fostering a culturally inclusive learning environment.
With a focus on language development and academic success, they will work closely with ELL students and their families to ensure a positive and supportive educational experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plans, organizes, and provides instruction in English that meets state and federal standards; Provides instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the district’s/school’s instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets; Develops and delivers lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies; Addresses all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area; Administers academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition; Maintains complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress; Provides a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies; Adapts curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students; Creates a culturally inclusive and supportive learning environment that respects the diverse backgrounds of ELL students; Advocates for the unique needs of ELL students within the school community; Collaborates with administrators and support staff to ensure a comprehensive support system for ELL students.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment; Employs a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students; Manages allotted learning time to maximize student achievement; Oversees assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed; Assists the administration in implementing all Board policies; Achieves those objectives/activities included in the Professional Growth Plan developed jointly with the principal or assistant principal as part of the accountability process mandated by the State Legislature; Consults with administrator(s), colleagues, students and/or parent on a consistent basis; Plans and supervises purposeful tasks for paraprofessional(s) and volunteer(s) assigned; Cooperates with administrator and/or department head in assessing the performance of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) assigned; Serves on and participates in professional staff committees/meetings required; Stays abreast of current trends, research, and best practices in ELL instruction; Participates in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills; Performs other duties as required.
Educational Background Bachelor’s degree required in Education, TESOL, or a related field; Valid Louisiana teaching certification required; ESL endorsement required; Experience working with elementary-level English language learners preferred Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong classroom management skills; Knowledge of language acquisition theories, best practices, and instructional strategies; Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and the ability to create an inclusive learning environment; Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies.
The ability to keep concise records; A sensitivity to the development stages and well-being of ELLs; The ability to incorporate current technology into the classroom environment; The ability to facilitate group discussion, analyze situations, and draw conclusions; The ability to work with a diversity of individuals and groups; Excellent problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans; The ability to adapt to changing work priorities and maintain flexible working hours; The ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships.
Salaries are determined by educational background and/or relevant years of experience.

Performance Evaluation The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument.
If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
