*Summary/objective*
Under the direction of the Library Director/Dean, this position is responsible for outreach, programming, and access services for Special Collections and Archives.
The Outreach and Public Services Librarian provides educational, programmatic, and promotional outreach to faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, visiting scholars, and others whose research, teaching, communications, and learning activities benefit from engagement with Special Collections and Archives.
In consultation with the Director, the Librarian is also responsible for development and implementation of policies and procedures for reference, duplication, access, and reading room services in Special Collections and Archives in accordance with identified standards and best practices.
The Outreach and Public Services Librarian is responsible for developing and participating in new and innovative approaches for effective outreach and direct services; performing user education, orientation, and instruction activities for individuals and classes in collaboration with faculty; promoting and marketing Special Collections and Archives initiatives, collections, programming, and services through tours, presentations, publications, social media, and other appropriate means; coordinating collection management activities including book and periodical processing, stacks maintenance, and other related functions supporting the use of Special Collections and Archives materials in consultation with the Director and departmental staff; and assisting with curating and mounting the department’s physical and digital exhibits programs and SUNO’s Exhibits Program with physical and digital exhibits as appropriate.
The Outreach and Public Services Librarian may participate in donor relations and grant proposals as appropriate.
\*This position is funded 100% by the Title III-B, Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) federal grant.
As such, the Outreach and Public Services Librarian assists the Director with implementing the objectives established in the Title III Program for this federally-funded activity.

_ * Provides information, referral and readers’ advisory assistance to the public.
* Instructs the public and staff in the use of the library collections and a wide variety of information tools and resources in all formats.
* Participates in community outreach, delivering library classes, programs, and services.
* Provides courteous, helpful, and efficient assistance and instruction to the public in use of library resources and services.
* Answers questions by phone, email, chat, or in person ranging from quick fact-finding to in-depth research using a variety of resources.
* Participates in community outreach and in the design and delivery of library classes, programs, and services.
* Mentors, trainings and models for support staff.
Provides training for support staff to ensure excellence in information and readers’ advisory services.
* Develops print and web-based tools, guides, and booklists to assist customers and staff in using the library and its resources.
* Assists with collection development projects; may be responsible for collection development in assigned areas.
* Promotes library services through active participation, involvement, and leadership in the community, and in library committees and projects.
* Performs other related tasks as assigned.

*Required education and experience* * Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited institution or * A bachelor degree in library science along with a Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
* The ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment is required.
*Preferred education and experience* * One or more years of higher education experience working effectively and collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff.
* One to three years of library experience, and two or more years of teaching (information literacy preferred) in at least the high school level, or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of the position * Experience with an automated library system * Knowledge of and experience in using appropriate resources, including electronic, for locating information effectively and quickly * Experience with a current version of a course management system (Canvas preferred) * Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and to interact effectively with others in an educational environment * Willingness to learn new skills in a constantly changing environment *Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
