Job Summary
Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for the position of Van/Shuttle Driver.
Under the direction of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), the Van/Shuttle Driver will assist the OSA in the transportation of students to and from various sites across the metropolitan area.
The Van/Shuttle Driver is responsible for maintaining the safety of students while providing transportation services, operating the vehicle with the highest concern for individual, student, and motorists’ safety, as well as reporting any accidents, incidents, or other issues that would prohibit the OSA from operating the transportation program.
The Van/Shuttle Driver must provide safe, courteous, and timely van/shuttle services in accordance with Xavier University of Louisiana’s Safe Driving Policy and all driving laws.
Drivers must have good communication skills to interact with fellow drivers, maintenance, the Student Life team, and the Xavier community they serve.
Commitment, patience, maturity, and initiative are required qualities.
A valid driver’s license is required.
A background check/drug screen is a part of our hiring process for Van/Shuttle Drivers.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
• Various shifts available

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Description
Arrive and depart from sites at designated times;
* Assist students with loading and unloading bags & supplies;
* Assist with the daily operations of the vehicle;
* Ensure that all transportation logs are completed
* Submit weekly reports as required
* Ability to read road maps, street signs, give and follow directions
* Maintain daily mileage and attendance logs
* Have basic geographic knowledge of the greater New Orleans area including streets and places of interest
* Have friendly personality with excellent customer service skills
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
* Must be punctual, reliable, and have the ability to safely and effectively transport customers in strict adherence to established policies, procedures and transportation timelines
* Availability to work evenings, weekends and emergency shifts as assigned
* Ability to quickly learn physical locations (buildings and street names) of all frequented sites
* Able to work shift hours and days assigned
* Advise passengers of rules and regulations when necessary
* Complete and submit written reports concerning passengers, vehicle operation, and all accidents as required
* Assist in the boarding of passengers using wheelchairs or other mobility aids and properly secure wheelchairs and/or scooters as necessary.
