Description: Position Title: Janitor Reports to: Janitorial Supervisor Location: New Orleans Employment Status: Full-Time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Summary: The Janitor is responsible for the cleaning, sanitation, and overall upkeep of the facility, while following the quality control measures and safety protocols within the New Orleans VA premises.
Committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for veterans, staff, and visitors.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Clean and Disinfect: Perform general cleaning and disinfecting duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, and dusting all areas of the facility, including but not limited to offices, hallways, restrooms, common areas, elevators, floors, canteen, breakrooms, waiting rooms, surgical areas, and outpatient rooms.
Trash Removal: Empty and sanitize trash receptacles on a regular basis, ensuring proper disposal or waste materials in accordance with established protocols.
Clean and Disinfect Restrooms: Clean and disinfect restroom facilities including toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors, showers, and restocking supplies as needed.
Window Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness of windows, blinds, and other glass surfaces throughout the facility.
Area Cleanliness: Ensure cleanliness and organization of supply rooms, storage areas, outpatient rooms, break rooms, common areas, waiting rooms, surgical rooms, keeping cleaning supplies properly stocked and stored.
Operate and Maintain Equipment: Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and carpet extractors, reporting any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisor.
Safety Protocols: Adhere to established safety protocols and procedures while handling cleaning chemicals and operating cleaning equipment to prevent accidents and promote a safe working environment.
Collaboration: Collaborate with other staff members and supervisor to prioritize tasks and address cleaning needs in a timely and efficient manner.
Infection Control: Follow established infection control procedures and protocols to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and maintain a hygienic environment.

Requirements: Security Requirements: Must be able to obtain VA Badge.
This position requires passing an extensive background check.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED.
At least 2 years janitorial/housekeeping experience within a medical/healthcare setting.
Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, work independently with minimal supervision, and prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks as required.
Work with approved cleaning chemicals.
Work around individuals that are sick and /or have an illness or infection.
Able to work ensuring there is no disruption to patients, staff, and visitors.
Knowledge of cleaning standards, infection control, and environmental safety practices in healthcare environments.
Flexibility: Able to work every other weekend and holiday as required.
Must pass a background check and comply with VA security requirements.
